Welcome to the June 2021 DRIE Digest!
It’s been about 15 months now that we are into the COVID 19 pandemic, what has changed and how resilient were we to these changes. I am sure we have all come to some kind of realizations about changes in all aspects of our lives whether its about our family, financial state, social well being, mental or physical health.

We learnt a lot about the organizations for which we work or that have an impact on our lives and their values during this pandemic. We would have observed in our own organizations, how we are treated in these difficult times and how far staff will go to save their company from falling behind.

It is about resilience.  Resilience is the outcome of the value and trust that an organization puts on its people talent, to steer the path in working with its technology and processes in formulating the right business model, to keep the company going through tough times. Working the technology and the process with good people to enhance or change the business model for an organization can be key.

Maintaining resilience during and after COVID 19 could be a struggle if an organization is losing Talent to its competitors.  It could be a key executive but what about critical staff departing in aggregate? We are as strong as our weakest link which is a significant factor for resilience. Here are some things to think about for parting thoughts. What if that weakest link turns out to be… not being able to retain good people? Why did key staff walk out the door? Are faithful staff overworked or their contributions being overlooked in favor of the squeaky wheel or the social animal or the pedestal accent? When last did the organization show its appreciation for its hard workers? Has the organization had been unsympathetic towards its staff under the locked down conditions of COVID 19? How is the organization treating its people and what values being practiced that are chasing staff? How diverse is the organization?

As we roll back into the offices again it is “all about people”. We have the technology to work remote and it is proven. The old “stick to the guns” thought process of ordering or pressuring staff to work at the office is antiquated and fossil thinking. Change that thinking to “power of resilience lies in people and diversity in thinking”. Whether they work from home or in the office is irrelevant. People are the fabric of the resilience and keep the resilience going!
